Places Around Tobermory

There are lots of other places to visit around the Tobermory area. Wiarton is about an hour drive from Tobermory. Sable Falls is a good way to cool off after a long hot summer day. Owen sound is a great place to shop.

You pass through Wiarton on your way to Tobermory. You would probably remember it for the huge hill you have to drive up. Wiarton is the place where Wiarton Willie lives. He is the ground hog that determines whether there is more winter to come or if spring is just around the corner. There are caves to be explored around Wiarton. There is also lots of good biking trails.

Sauble Falls is located in the southern part of the Bruce Peninsula. The falls are a little bit north from Sable beach. It is a low, wide water fall. It is very close to the road. People go there for swimming and fishing. I went swimming there few years ago and had a lot of fun.

Owen sound is approximately an hour and a half away from Tobermory. They have lots of stores there. That’s where you go for big shopping trips. We don’t go there very often though. Last year we went there a few times to see movies. It is located on the southern shores of Georgian Bay.

Those we some more activities to do around Tobermory.

Tobermory and Flower Pot Island

Tobermory is a very popular place for vacations and camping. There is also an island not to far away from Tobermory that has rock on it that has eroded not to far away from the harbour. The island has two flower pot shaped rocks. That island is called flower pot island.

Tobermory is known as the fresh water scuba diving capital of the world. It is a very popular town with naturalists, photographers, divers, and hikers. There are some very beautiful and delicate flowers in the area like the yellow lady slipper.

There is a trail from Tobermory to Niagara falls called the Bruce trail. It is a very long trail. It is in the woods with designated camping areas. It is a very long and challenging walk. There is a stone monument set up in Tobermory for the people that complete the walk.
Flower pot island is a twenty minute boat ride from Tobermory. It has trails on the island. There is a house there and every two weeks or so new people take turns to live in it. There is also a light house there. Around the flower pots there are some caves for exploring there as well.

These are both very interesting places close by each other. They both have there own history. You should try to walk along the Bruce trail sometime.

Things To Do In Tobermory

There are lots of things to do and see around Tobermory. Tobermory recently got a visitor centre built. If you are into climbing there’s the Grotto and no trip to Tobermory is complete with out a trip to singing sands.

The visitor centre is a museum all about Tobermory. It has a video in a mini movie theatre room. There’s animals around Tobermory stuffed and the history about all the shipwrecks around the area. The visitor centre also has a big tower that you can climb up and look down at Tobermory from. They also have a trail there that goes off of the Bruce trail. Last but not least they even have a gift shop.

After a long walk you finally get to a cliff called the Grotto. If you climb down it you find that it is on a underwater cave. It is a great place for diving. There is a beautiful view there. The Grotto is on the Georgian Bay side so the water is very cold.

On the road my cottage is on, there is a very popular beach called singing sands. This beach is very long and sandy beach. It’s a very busy beach and popular. There is also trails used for walking and biking there. The trails there used to be used as a campsite but now is used for walking. If you go swimming there you have to be careful if its rough because there is under toe there. Under toe is when the waves come and hit the shore the water from the waves before it is underneath the wave. This can pull you under the water.

Those were a few ideas for you if you ever go to Tobermory.
