Water Activities

     Tobermory is surrounded by water. With Lake Huron on the left side and Georgian Bay on the right. There are a tun of water activities including paddle boating, canoeing and kayaking.

     I have a canoe at my cottage. Occasionally I go for a paddle around the lake my cottage is on. My family and I take our canoe to Cameron Lake and flipped it and went underneath it when it was upside down in the water. We also paddled to the end of the lake and travelled through the channel there into the lake behind it. You also get to see a lot of animals because there isn’t a loud motor to scare them away.

     The Chi-Cheemaun is a giant ferry that carries cars and people to and from Manitoulin Island. It has a gift shop and a restaurant on it. There are railings out side the ship where you can go out side to see the view. It is about a two and a half hour boat ride.

    

     In Tobermory there is a small cruse ship company called the Blue Heron. They have a boat that has a area in the floor that’s glass . Its is a very neat cruse because they drive around and over ship wreaks and you can look at them through the bottom of the boat.

    

     These are just a few of the water activities that you can do at Tobermory. There is also fishing sailing and seadoing.

Favorite Places To Swim

     One of the main things people do when they go to Tobermory is swimming or water activities. This shouldn't be a surprise considering Tobermory is known for scuba diving. There are lots of ship wrecks to dive around. Including one in the Little Tub Harbor. I haven't gone diving with an oxygen tank. I prefer swimming or diving in not very deep water with a mask.

     One of my favorite places to swim is Cameron Lake. It is about 15 minutes to drive from my cottage. One of the reasons I like swimming there is that the water is so warm. Its also really sandy there. Cameron Lake is good for fishing and tubing.

     There is a place in Tobermory only the locals know about. They call it mermaids cove because apparently at night night people go skinny dipping there. The water is also very cold since it is on Georgian Bay Side. Its very deep and the water is very clear there.

    

     On the street my cottage is on, there is a fire lane and the address is 66. It is the Townships property but people are aloud on it. If you walk down, there is a flat rock beach there. The water is also very cold there until around the end of August. I love diving there. Its also a great place to swim.


     Those are my favorite places to swim. There are also a lot of other places to swim around Tobermory but I prefer my favorite places because I don't have to fight with the instant crowds of people.

My Summer Home

     I can barely remember when I got my cottage. The only thing I really remember was how up set I was because I had to quit soccer because I was way all summer.

    When we bought our cottage didn’t look very good. It was this ugly blue-green colour. It used to be used as a place to stay when the previous owners went hunting. It looked very tough inside and out. When my dad bought it he thought of it as a fixer up project. It took us approximately 5 summers or so to get it the way it is now.

     We basically rebuilt our cottage. It was a long process. One morning when we were still rebuilding my cottage there was a bat flying around and we were chasing it with badminton rackets. The dock was just whole bunch of pieces of wood nailed together. One May 24 weekend we got ride of our old dock and rebuild a new one. It went well except for the water snakes home we got rid of with are old dock.

    

     A few years ago we built a gazebo by our dock. It’s a nice place to sit and look at the lake out of the sun. Now that all the works done we can just sit and relax. Last summer my friend Rachel came to my cottage and she was swinging on an old rope in the forest and it broke. Its fun times like these that I can now enjoy. Now that my cottage is finished.

    

     We have had our cottage for 10 years now and it took a bit of time to get it the way it is. I’m now looking forward to years to come there.

Wild Life

     Around Tobermory there is lots of forests and trees. In all of those forests there is alot of wild life. There is everything from small cute animals to dangerous or even venomous ones.

     At my cottage we always have chipmunks running around. It is also because we feed them. When I was younger I used to feed the chipmunks and I even got to pet them. Every now and then we see the occasional  rabit, but not very often. We also have squirrels at my cottage, but I don't feed them because there not very cute.

     You have to be careful where you step in Tobermory, because there are rattle snakes. Never wear flip flops there because if you step on one it will bite you. Black bears are also some thing you don't want to run into. If you come across a black bear you are supost to make yourself look very tall and make loud noises. If you have a small dog or pet and you let it go outside you will want to watch it extra close if you go to Tobermory. Or the area around it because of these animals called fishers. I haven't seen a fishers except a stuffed on in a museum, but they are suppsed to be very vicious.

    
     There are all kinds of birds around the area. The Blue Heron is the bird that's known around the area. There beautiful birds. Hard to find. There's also lots of seaguls. There the most common bird. There also very anoying. There's also lots of Bule Jays. There pretty birds.

      This is just a few types of animals that live in Tobermory. There arer lots of other types of animals. You need to visit the area to see all of the animals.

The Sweet Shop

 

     If you ever go to Tobermory make sure you visit the Sweet Shop. It has a wide selection of ice cream flavores and different kinds of fudge. You don't even have to go out of your way to go there since it is located in the Little Tub Harbour where all the stores are.

     The Sweet Shop employes make a lot of the candy themselves. There is a lot of different kinds of fudge, brittle, and carmel corn. Even if you have diabeties you can still enjoy there no sugar added chocolates and ice cream. They also have a lot of other candy's that they don't make in the store like sweet-tarts, pez despencers and gummy candies.

     I worked at the Sweet Shop last summer. It seems like an easy job working at a candy store. I was a icecream scooper. It seems easy enough ,you take peoples order and scoop the ice cream. There was around 28 flavors of ice cream. Aside from scooping ice cream, it was also apart of my job to make milkshakes, sundays, smoothies, slushies and frozen yougurt. When I work untill closing I had to take out the garbage, recycling and mop the floors.

     The Sweet Shop is located in the Little Tub Harbour. There is a little coffee shop just down the hill from the Sweet Shop. It's also owned by the same people. There's free parking avalible at the library behind the Sweet Shop.

     It's a sweet tooths heaven. I loved working at the Sweet Shop, but I think I only would work there in the summers. Any longer and I would end up gaining to much weight from all the free samples and barely expired food.
